Registered Mental Health Nurse & Equine Facilitated Psychotherapist
Alex has many years of experience as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) and has worked with a wide range of client groups. Her nursing background includes acute psychiatric inpatient settings, psychiatric intensive care units, Accident & Emergency, crisis resolution teams as well as going on to work as previously working as a community mental health nurse in specialist child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS).
Alex’s specialist areas of nursing practice include adolescent mental health issues, dissociative disorders, PTSD, attachment disorders, eating disorders, ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Alex is highly experienced in working with clients who engage in self-harm and suicidal behaviours and has worked within accident & emergency settings providing assessment and treatment to those requiring crisis mental health care.
Alex brings her caring, empathic nature to her therapeutic work. Although Alex works with clients of all ages, she is particularly skilled at engaging children and adolescents and strongly believes in promoting emotional coping skills, self-awareness and building self-esteem which will help clients live more fulfilling lives during adulthood and reduce the likelihood of ongoing mental health problems. This comes not only from her experiences of recovery-focused mental health nursing but also her own personal experience of suffering from anxiety and depression in her adolescent and adulthood years due to unresolved childhood experiences.
Alex graduated from the University of Surrey with a Mental Health Nursing Diploma and then in 2017 went on to graduate from LEAP with a Level 5 Diploma in Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy.
