Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
At some point in our lives, most of us will experience trauma of some kind, both mild and dramatic. However, there are certain types of trauma that we have difficulty in dealing with.
It matters not the severity of the event, just that it creates a lasting impression upon us. For some people, a visual trauma is the worst kind such as a crash, injury or similar premise. For others, a significant emotional event is enough to trigger problems associated with trauma. Simply put, Trauma is the inability to cope with or understand the ideas and emotions involved with being involved in a particular experience, but it matters not what that experience may be.
PTSD is classed as a form of anxiety, and can affect anyone who has been through or encountered a terrifying or harrowing experience, with many different reasons. It can follow such episodes as witnessing or being involved in road traffic accidents, being a victim of attack or abuse, having been on the front line or served in the services, army, fire, police, rescue, navy and much more.
Symptoms of PTSD can include feeling grief-stricken, depressed, anxious, guilty and angry, and you may even find yourself reliving the event again and again.
